Last to Cry - My Latest Entry in the International Songwriting Competition

Today was the deadline for the International Songwriting Competition. I entered a song that I co-wrote with my friend Kirstin Smith that I have been working on in the studio for the past few months entitled "Last to Cry". (this is in addition to the 7 songs we entered back in July)The song features Chip Reardin on bass and percussion, Ariel Simpson on ambient backing vocals, and myself on lead vocals, piano, and keyboards. The process of creating the song began with Kirstin showing me some lyrics that she had written. I immediately latched on to the idea and began creating a melody and arrangement. I brought the arrangement to Airtime Studios back in in early July.First we recorded the piano and some of the percussion parts. Then we laid down the lead vocals and synths. I also had Ariel Simpson record some ambient vocal sounds for the end of the song, which personify the crying of the girl who is the main character in the song.I worked with Chip Reardin (the sound engineer and co-producer of much of my work) to write a really cool bass part. We also added some additional percussion towards the very end of the recording process. The mix here is pretty close to what the final song will sound like. We may do a little additional mixing and mastering, but enjoy this early mix and let me know what you think in the comments!
