Tim started teaching piano when he was 17. His mother had a colleague in Columbus, Ohio, who's daughter was working on Rachmaninoff's famous C# Minor Prelude, so he taught her until he moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Since then he's taught mostly privately nearly 1500 piano and voice students, in Columbus, Cleveland, Logan, and Athens, Ohio; Boston, Massachusetts, Limassol, Cyprus, and Bloomington, Indiana. In August 2024 Tim moved to Rancho Mirage, California to promote the making of a movie/musical he's co-written called Childrenopolis. Over the years Tim has given lessons in his teaching studios and a few music schools, but for the most part he's taught in people's homes. He's now offering piano and voice lessons in homes in Greater Palm Springs!
Tim's principal piano teachers were Kurtz Helber, student of George Haddad; Nancy Bachus, student of Eugene List, Ozan Marsh, and Brooks Smith; and Richard Syracuse, student of Rosina Lhevinne and Rosalyn Tureck. Tim's principal voice teachers were Ira Zook, student of Richard Miller, and Michael Belnap, student of Luciano Pavarotti. Michael was the only voice teacher on the faculty at Indiana University School of Music at that time who knew how to teach and perform classical/opera singing, musical theater, and pop singing styles. Tim also did a bit of jazz piano with Russell Hoffman in Boston, MA, and gospel piano and voice with Ethel Caffie-Austin, in Charleston, West Virginia.
Tim was a music and liberal arts major at Cleveland State University, Ohio University, and Indiana University School of Music (now the Jacobs School of Music).
Many of his students have gone on to major in music in college, and work professionally in music. Three of his young sopranos won 1st prize in the Indiana State Finals of the National Federation of Music Clubs Vocal Solo Art Song Competition in Indiana. But mostly he's worked with kids and some adults who enjoy music as a hobby. He's taught all levels, beginners to advanced, in both piano and voice.
Tim's been blessed beyond measure with wonderful, high-level teachers, and has done his best to pass on what he learned from them, combined with what he's learned on his own from years of teaching and performing classical, musical theater, pop, and rock.
