Happy 4th of July!
Hello, hope you are having a wonderful 4th of July! I'd like to share a memorable experience from last year's Independence Day. I have often felt the thrill of fireworks, although I do feel badly for all the poor dogs suffering from the huge blasts and booms. But last year on July 4th, instead of going to the local fireworks shows, I took a twilight trip to Leonard Springs Nature Park, on the outskirts of Bloomington, Indiana, and spent the evening communing with the sights and sounds and smells of a breathtakingly beautiful swamp. Later that night, I wrote this poem:This year I didn't seem to need the fireworks.Instead I chose to find what magic in the wetland lurks. In lieu of Roman candles, cannonades, and Chinese crackers,I heard the sounds of chirps and coos and croaks and flying quackers.I bypassed all the celebratory red and white and blue,To revel in the tranquil marsh's moody mystical hue.Sometimes I tire of man-made patriotic pomposity,And find it easily trumped by God's intrinsic virtuosity! Here were some pictures that I took that evening:[nggallery id=7]Happy 4th of July, however you choose to spend it this year!Cheers,Timothy ReedCarry Me Music Publishingwww.carrymemusic.comCheck us Out on Facebook
