Childrenopolis Entered Into Screenwriting Competition!

Hello everyone,

On April 30th, 2021 I entered the Childrenopolis screenplay in the Screencraft Comedy Screenwriting Competition!

Since late last year, I've made dozens of trips to meet David Heavener in Corydon, Indiana, putting the pedal to the metal on the script and the songs! We usually meet at a cozy little café, the Kent Java Bar, on the main drag in Corydon, a picturesque little southern Indiana town, that used to be the capitol of Indiana. It's about a 2 hour drive from Bloomington, where I live, and quite scenic, passing through some beautiful country, including my favorite leg of the trip, between Orleans and Rt. 150, passing through Pumpkin Center. This leg has some breathtaking vistas, vibrant farms, with horses, sheep, and goats, and you have to watch out for Amish horse and buggies!

The Childrenopolis movie/musical now has 13 songs, several of which appear more than once in different arrangements and/or reprises. So far I have 6 of them released, as demos. They are listed below. Stay tuned for the remaining 7 demos!

The most recent song demo is "Under the Rainbow". This song appears several times in the movie, in widely varying versions, but here is the basic version of the song, with me on piano and vocal: click here to listen to ”Under the Rainbow on YouTube

Here's another recent song demo, called "For Once in My Life". For this demo, I sing and play it, but in the actual movie, a man named Hari Krishna sings it. His dream is to be a Bollywood star, but unfortunately for him, he's not very handsome, and chubby. So he always gets cast in small comedic roles, which is very frustrating for him.

Here are links to the other song demos. (note: please click on the bold title of the song to listen)

Love Makes the World Go Round | Most of the demos for the Childrenopolis songs are just piano and voice, but this is one that I have arranged more extensively. This song also appears in several versions, including a brief reggae rendition! In one scene, the kids in Childrenopolis sing it in 30 different languages, changing to a different language in each line! But here is the basic song. In this version the lead vocal in the chorus is sung by the mega-talented Ariel Simpson (Herzberger)! All of the other vocals are sung by me, at times 7 parts at once, in the section where the "Do Unto Others..." lyrics comes in.

The Paper Song | This song is sung in Childrenopolis by Jingjing, recalling when she encouraged her friend Ts'ai Lun to come up with a way to efficiently make paper, in China in 105 AD. My 10 yr old voice student Makayla King sings the lead vocal.

Tell 'Em About the Dream | In Childrenopolis, Mahalia Jackson recalls when she helped Martin Luther King with his I Have a Dream speech, at the March for Jobs and Freedom, in Washington D.C., in 1963. Avery Njau, a teenager who lives in Bloomington, sings the lead vocal!

All the Things I Used to Love | Sung by Ogden Fletcher, one of the major characters in the movie. It's almost Christmas, and Ogden is missing his Dad, who died 3 years ago in a motorcycle accident. Gabriel North, my intermittent piano student, recorded the lead vocal, just before his voice changed!

Cheers,

Tim
